Alternatives
A Runna alternative, for a different kind of runner
Waypath is a GPS running, trail and live-tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch, built in Europe, that lets anyone follow a run live from a browser link without installing an app.
Runna and Waypath are not the same product, and a page that pretended they were would waste your time. Runna is a coach: it writes the plan and tells you what to run today. Waypath is a tracker and a map: it records what you did, explains what the terrain cost you, and lets people watch. If you are looking for an alternative to Runna, the first question is which of those two things you were actually paying for.
Plainly
What Runna is, and what it costs
Runna sells personalised training plans with a large library of guided sessions, syncs to most watches, and is priced at $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year. In April 2025 Strava announced it was acquiring Runna, and the two now sell a combined subscription at $149.99 a year, annual only. If a plan that adapts week by week is what gets you out of the door, Runna is good at that, and Waypath does not do it.
The people who come to this page are usually not disputing that. They are paying a coaching price for an app they mostly use to record, or they are uneasy about their training data moving into the Strava group, or they want something for trail running that Runna's road-focused plans do not cover well.
What you get
What Waypath does instead
Recording, free and unlimited
GPS on iPhone and directly on Apple Watch, for 56 sports, with smart filtering of bad fixes. No plan required to record.
Analysis that knows the hills
Splits, grade-adjusted pace, what the terrain cost you, training load, fitness and freshness, and race predictions fitted to your own results and labelled as the standard model until there is enough data.
A pacer instead of a plan
The Ghost Runner chases your best on this route, a PR, a course record or a race goal, and holds your effort rather than a flat pace by reading the climbs ahead.
426,029 waymarked trails
Across 37 countries with dated condition reports. Runna has no trail catalogue; it is not what it is for.
A live link, free
Anyone with the link watches your run or an event course from a browser, with no app and no account.
A different price
Premium is $29.99 a year, $4.99 a month, or $59.99 once for life, with the first month free. That is a quarter of Runna's annual price, for a different product.
Ownership
Where the data lives
Waypath keeps your data on one server in Lauterbourg, France, inside the EEA, with no analytics or advertising SDK and nothing public until you publish it. Every activity exports as GPX 1.1 on the free plan. Runna's storage region and export options: not verified from its own material on the date below, so we do not state them.
One practical note: Waypath imports past workouts from Apple Health, so runs Runna recorded on an Apple Watch usually come across. It cannot yet read a GPX or FIT file you hand it.
The other side
What Runna has that Waypath does not
- A plan. Waypath will tell you your readiness, your load and a predicted race time. It will not tell you what to run on Tuesday. If you want that, Waypath is not the answer and Runna is a good one.
- Guided sessions. Runna's structured workouts talk you through intervals on the watch. Waypath's pacer gives effort guidance against a target, which is a different thing.
- Watch and platform reach. Runna runs on Android and syncs with Garmin, Coros and Apple Watch. Waypath is iPhone and Apple Watch only, with other watches arriving through Apple Health. Android is planned for January 2027.
- Strava integration. Runna is part of Strava. Waypath exports GPX you can upload to Strava; it does not sync automatically.

Questions
Questions people ask
More on the FAQ page.
Does Waypath make training plans like Runna?
No. Waypath gives readiness, training load, race predictions and a hill-aware pacer, but it does not write a plan or schedule sessions.
How does the price compare?
Runna is $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year, or $149.99 a year bundled with Strava. Waypath Premium is $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year, or $59.99 once, and recording is free without it.
